Android TV 13 introduces the ability for users to change the default refresh rate and resolution on compatible HDMI source devices, improving the visual experience.

API enhancements

The new OS also introduces APIs for developers to enhance the TV experience for users. The AudioManager API enables apps to track the audio attributes of the connected audio device and set the optimal format before playback. The InputDevice API allows for different keyboard layouts.

Accessibility features

Android 13 for TV includes accessibility features such as updated user controls for Assistant microphone access and new audio description preference settings in apps. HDMI source devices have been improved to save power when the HDMI state changes, and new languages have been added for HDMI source devices.

Additional features

Other features of Android 13 for TV include Tuner HAL 2.0 with performance optimizations, twin tuner support, and ISDB-T Multi-Layer support.

Availability

Android 13 for TV is now available for both ADT-3 and the Android TV emulator, with wider availability expected in the near future. Last year, Android TV 12 began rolling out to devices.
